CHEDARacademy · Cookies and tracking technologies

Cookie Policy

This policy concerns only the public CHEDARacademy landing page at chedaracademy.org. It explains the use of cookies and similar technologies by the website and by third-party services embedded in it, particularly YouTube. It does not cover the separate learning platform.

Last updated: 16 August 2026

1. Data Controller

The Data Controller for the processing described in this Cookie Policy is Prof. Grazia Tucci, DICEA — Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Florence, Via di S. Marta 3, 50139 Firenze, Italy.

Email: grazia.tucci@unifi.it · CHEDARacademy contact: info@chedaracademy.org.

2. What cookies and similar technologies are

Cookies are small text files that websites or third-party services can store on a visitor's device. Similar technologies may include local storage, pixels, identifiers and other mechanisms used to provide functionality, remember information or collect information about use of a service.

3. Current CHEDARacademy configuration

The current public landing page does not intentionally use first-party analytics, advertising or profiling tools. The page does, however, contain embedded YouTube players so that course teaser videos can be played directly within CHEDARacademy.

The website is hosted by SiteGround. Hosting and security infrastructure may use strictly necessary technical mechanisms and server-side logs to provide, secure and maintain the service.

4. Embedded YouTube players

The course teaser videos are embedded using YouTube's Privacy-Enhanced Mode through the youtube-nocookie.com domain where technically possible. This configuration is intended to reduce tracking associated with embedded viewing, but YouTube remains an external third-party service.

Loading or using a YouTube player may result in Google/YouTube receiving technical information such as IP address, browser/device information and interaction data, and may involve cookies, local storage or other identifiers according to the provider's current implementation.

5. Categories of technologies

CategoryProvider / purposeCurrent role
Technical / strictly necessary Website delivery, security, request handling, hosting and service availability. SiteGround and hosting-level infrastructure, where enabled and necessary.
Third-party multimedia Delivery and playback of embedded course teaser videos. Google / YouTube via Privacy-Enhanced Mode.
First-party analytics Measurement of visits and user behaviour. Not intentionally used in the current landing page.
Advertising / profiling Advertising targeting or creation of marketing profiles. Not intentionally used by CHEDARacademy on the current landing page.

6. Consent and non-essential tracking

Under the applicable Italian rules, cookies and similar technologies that are strictly necessary for a requested service can be used without consent, subject to appropriate information. Non-essential tracking technologies generally require the user's consent before activation.

Because YouTube is an external service and its technical implementation can change, the live production website should be checked after deployment on SiteGround to identify which cookies or storage technologies are actually activated before and during video playback. If the production configuration activates non-essential tracking before user consent, an appropriate consent mechanism must be implemented.

7. Why exact third-party cookie names are not hard-coded here

Third-party providers may change cookie names, purposes, domains and retention periods over time. Listing obsolete identifiers would make the information inaccurate. The live website should therefore be periodically checked and this policy updated whenever the technologies actually detected change.

8. The email update form is not a cookie

The “Notify me” form does not itself constitute a cookie or analytics technology. If a user voluntarily submits an email address, that personal data is processed for the requested updates as described in the Privacy Policy.

9. How users can manage cookies

Browser settings generally allow users to view, delete or block cookies and website storage. Blocking third-party technologies may affect the availability or playback of embedded multimedia content. Browser controls operate independently of the CHEDARacademy website.

10. Updates to this Cookie Policy

This policy will be reviewed if new analytics, advertising, embedded services or other tracking technologies are introduced, or if the production hosting/video configuration changes materially.
